______________
Today, Friday, 19th of September, 2014, I received my Careprost in the mail! I am super excited to start this 12-week experiment :)
For those of you who don't know what Careprost is, it is the generic version of the popular (and might I say quite expensive [$125 a bottle]) Latisse. They are one and the same (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%), only Latisse is much more expensive as it is FDA approved.
Careprost is a treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker, and darker. Hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes. Research suggests that growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (or growth) phase of the hair follicle. Bimatoprost can prolong this growth phase, hence you get longer lashes. It also appears to help generate extra lashes, so your lashes get fuller. These eye drops were previously used for patients with glaucoma until the patients started noticing longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes. Now thousands of women around the world are using it as an eyelash enhancer.
I know some of you may be thinking, "Yeah right! Probably another product that will only waste my time and my money..." but this is why I started this blog -- so I can show you my results and you can form your own opinion on whether Careprost is good for you or not. Now I know there are many products out there claiming to do so much more than they actually can, but Careprost has many, many, many great reviews. There are a ton of before and after pictures all over the Web, dozens--if not more--YouTube videos, and hundreds of blogs and forums buzzing about it. I have done research for weeks before finally purchasing my own dose of Careprost and now I am ready to see for myself if its right for me.
First off, I wanted to mention that I do not have very short eyelashes nor are they very long. I think my eyelashes are of normal length. I have always loved long eyelashes and I own many mascaras. When I first heard about Careprost, I started researching it. And when I eagerly research for something, I make sure I know all I need to know about it. So when I finally made the decision to purchase, I felt very comfortable and confident in the product. What I hope to gain from it is, of course, longer lashes, but I am also hoping that they get fuller and darker. If I am lucky, I'll achieve all three.
Below are my Day 1 pictures taken today -with and without mascara application- to mark the first day of my journey:
The picture on top was taken without any mascara and the one below it was taken with mascara. The difference is hardly visible here for some reason.
The difference between my eyelashes with mascara vs no mascara is much clearer in this picture. I could not find my Colossal mascara (one of my all-time favorites) so I opted for the Double Extend by Loreal. I applied 2-3 coats. I didn't curl my eyelashes in any of these pictures, but I am sure it would have made a difference with mascara.
This is the mascara I used.
I have already removed my mascara and washed my face and applied my first application of Careprost. I poured 1 drop of Careprost in the cap of the bottle and dipped my brush in there and applied it on my upper lash line, right where the hair grows, as if I was applying eyeliner. One drop should be enough for both eyelash lines. Application is very easy, but there are also a few things you should know:
1. Use a very thin application brush, not a thick one. It will eat up all your liquid and waste it. I think the best are very thin eyeliner brushes -not eyeshadow brushes- or lip gloss brushes. Both are perfect to use. I personally used a small eyeliner brush from ELF (pictured above).
2. You don't need to apply a lot of liquid. I read this tip over and over again while researching Careprost reviews. A little bit along the top of the lash line goes a long way. Some people said they didn't prefer using it on the lower lash line but I did run my brush over it softly.
3. Let it dry and be careful not to get the liquid on other parts of your face or else you might get little eyelashes growing there! (haha) -- When I first heard someone saying that about Careprost I thought, "Could it really be that good at growing your hairs?" :)
I don't know how good Careprost works for eyebrows but I did apply another drop in my cap and used it to cover a few areas in my eyebrows. I'll let you know as the journey progresses.
That's all for Day 1. I plan to document every 28 days (4 weeks), unless something interesting happens in between :)
